mhm, i own the original 1990's version on disk, both seasons. i've also seen this 2020's version since episode one. it is... a fairly good artistically and animation technique franchise nowadays. but the writing is... barely average overall. in some points so far... the writing is well below average to bottom of the barrel. the linear flow and cohesiveness of the plotlines and overall storytelling could have been GREATLY improved upon in S2 ESPECIALLY. perhaps this was due to S2 being so long and broken into Two Parts. if Studio DEEN had instead planned everything out into a S1-4 instead of making S2 so long, they could have done a better job with the screenwriting. personally, i enjoy the previous seasons' English dub writing a bit more than i enjoy the Japanese writing. because i think Funimation (who got the dub) did a stellar job reworking the screenplays. Funi couldn't exactly 'turn a sow's ear into a silk purse'... but i think it was a great improvement.

Orphen did get started with the 1st book in 1994... but the franchise has other novels published as recently as 2019. with a planned two more not yet published.

I mean. I've watched every one. It's a 90s style w/ modern work. The relationships don't feel fake. The arguments aren't that toxic niceness fantasy fanservice. The MC doesn't look like a generic 12 yr old twink. It has magic and fighting, and the plot has a point to it.

But plot progression might be a little slow for some. PsychoPass was the same way. Seemingly actual people in an anime, with just as much infighting as outfighting, inching ever so slowly towards the question of the plot at hand.

Well, it has one fan service. Kind of. A killer cat lol.

i remember really not liking this anime at the end of the last season, but i couldn't remember why... then the MC left all of his stuff behind to chase after two dwarves when he didnt have too, and his friends didn't bother to pick it up because "he didnt leave any money behind to pay them to carry his stuff" then they get back to realize it was gone and "all their money was in there" ........WHAT. kind of dumba$$ writing is that.

the truth of this series is that it is made/written by a lazy (probably not well funded) team, the animation is sub-par and their conflicts are created by non-sensical situations and negligence from the main character and his crew. Weak.
